Hello
-
My name is Danny McAuliffe. I graduated from the University of Salford with a Degree in Sports Rehabilitation in 2002.
-
This Degree course was the brainchild of some of the most eminent names in Physiotherapy in Britain who realised that traditional Physiotherapy Degree courses covered such a wide spectrum of disciplines that graduates were under qualified to work in Musculo-Skeletal and Sports Settings.
-
Having learned my trade from Premier League and England RFU Physiotherapists while working along side Orthopaedic Surgeons and in Burnley FC, I returned to Ireland and opened my clinic in Mallow and have never looked back since.
Release Clinic
Release Clinic began its life more as a response to demand rather than by design. Upon returning from England I immediately secured the role of Head Physio with Cobh Ramblers FC for a season. Through word of mouth from this, GAA teams began to contact me so initially I assessed and treated in their facilities but as more clubs came on board I needed a base so that I could manage the load. I rented a small room towards the end of 2002 and I am proud to say that while I have moved on from the small room, I have been practicing in my clinic since then.

My Approach
Obviously with over 20 years of experience my approach to each individual coming in has evolved from the lessons learned from my Physiotherapy tutors in Manchester. Over the years I have seen how the profession has moved on and changed with the times also. However, the fundamentals remain the same and regardless of what pain or problem you might have my adherence to the holy trinity of treatment goals has never changed:

-
Accurate Diagnosis
-
Correct Treatment
-
Suitable Exercise Prescription

One of the most obvious changes I have seen in Physiotherapy Graduates over the past 10 years is a move away from hands on treatment towards an almost exclusive exercise prescription model. Having treated thousands and thousands and thousands of patients over the past 20 years, I have seen time and again on a daily basis how much quicker you can relieve pain with the right treatment. While the corrective exercise approach is completely correct, identifying causes rather than just chasing symptoms, it is important to remember that when someone is in spasm or has a trapped nerve the immediate concern is pain relief. Once this is addressed things like posture, strength and flexibility can be addressed. This is why the cornerstone to my treatment philosophy is and always will be a hands on approach with pain relief always the number one priority. From the moment you sit in front of me to tell me your story, the process to recovery is as follows:

-
Relieve Pain
-
Restore Movement
-
Release Your Potential
My Own 'Back' Story
While away travelling four years ago, a long 6 hour bumpy car journey left both my wife and I pretty busted by the time we reached our destination. Luckily for my wife she had me so a little bit of massage and a well placed L5/S1 facet joint manipulation had her sorted for good that evening. I on the other hand had no one to turn to so I resolved to do what I could with stretching and foam rolling until we got home. The problem was that it was a further two weeks until we got home so several road trips and one long haul flight later I arrived in Ireland pretty broke up. From here followed a long and winding road seeing several different practitioners (13) between Phyios, Osteopaths, Chiropractors and even a Pain Specialist for an injection. While nothing seemed to help it was nonetheless and valuable learning experience for me to see how others approached back pain and also reinforced my staunch belief that nothing beats well directed and early hands-on treatment.
